Once Upon a Town is an annual storytelling festival in Maastricht. An event where different locations tell stories about Maastricht and their local legends. Each year, the style is changed to match that year’s theme. This year’s theme was “Migration”. My heart leapt at the opportunity to be the group’s storyteller, crafting the text and assembling the final booklet – a process I truly loved. Through research, we decided to channel the narrative through poetry, shaping it into a captivating booklet. This format allowed us to explore the “I” perspective on a deeper level while reaching a broader audience. At its core, our story explores the profound shift from a familiar life to a completely new one. We intertwined the journey of a transplant heart with that of a migrant, creating a powerful parallel between them.
Our ambitious goal was to have a working prototype within six weeks, ready to be refined and polished based on festival feedback. With dedication and teamwork, we brought this vision to life in the final printed book.
